Financial AidSCU offers federal financial aid, private educational loans and payment plans for ISP students. Federal Finacial Aid How to Apply In order to receive federal financial aid, students must be enrolled in three or more classes. To apply, students are directed to the Federal Student Aid FAFSA website at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Follow the three simple steps including completing a free application for student aid. Please note that Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCU) - FAFSA School Code is: 001229. Federal Finacial Aid loans are low interest loans, need and non-need based in nature. These loans must be repaid once a student leaves the university. The Subsidized Federal Stafford Loan program is obtained through private lenders, such as banks, savings and loans, and credit unions. The interest rate is fixed at 6.8% and the accrued interest (during enrollment) is paid by the federal government. The Unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loan has the same terms and conditions as the subsidized loan, except that the borrower is responsible for the interest that accrues during the educational process. For both loans, there is a six-month grace period after graduation before repayment begins and up to 10 years can be taken to repay under the standard repayment plan. Other repayment plans are available that allow students longer to repay their loans at a lower monthly rate. When you apply for a loan you agree to repay all of the funds you borrowed plus interest and fees. Capitalization, which is the interest banks defer and add to the principle amount of the loan, occurs only once, at repayment. Private Educational Loans Private alternative loans are based on an individual’s credit history and, in some cases, projected future earnings. Please follow the link below to apply for private educational loans: www.certifiedprivateloans.com Payment Plans ISP offers payment plans designed for students that are not applying for federal financial aid and are enrolling in two (2) or more classes. For students enrolling in two (2) classes the payments are divided into three (3) installments. The first installment is due on the first day of class, with the second installment due on the first day of class of the second course, and the third installment is due the last day of class. For students enrolling in three (3) classes the payments are divided into four (4) installments. Loan Disbursement Loans are disbursed at the beginning of each class. Please remember that the Financial Aid Office at SCU needs a copy of all transcripts from high school and colleges that you have attended.
